Nainital schools closed due to heavy rain and landslide warnings

All government, semi-government, and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as Anganwadi centres, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand have been ordered to close on Monday. This decision follows an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, lightning, and intense rain spells.

Nainital District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Raiyal issued the order as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff from potential hazards, including landslides and strong water flows in rivers and drains. While the closure applies broadly, residential educational institutions and schools within Nainital city that provide on-campus housing are exempt from the order.
