Nairobi County Ordered to Pay Ksh168 Million to Local Firm
Kenya's High Court ordered Nairobi County and its Chief Officer for Mobility and ICT Infrastructure to pay Ksh168,516,186 after the county failed to honour a previous settlement on a Ksh330 million claim. The court found the county had only partially paid the amount, leaving an unpaid balance of more than Ksh168 million. Justice William Musyoka ruled that once a judgment is entered against the government and a certificate of order issued, the payment becomes a statutory duty, and also awarded Ksh50,000 to cover application costs. The decision adds pressure on Nairobi County to settle this and other outstanding court awards.
The ruling highlights ongoing challenges in Kenya’s public‑sector finance, where courts cannot attach government assets, forcing reliance on statutory orders to enforce payments.
