Nairobi Expressway viral robbery video investigated as no crime found

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an inquiry into a viral video that sparked fears of daylight robberies on the Nairobi Expressway. Preliminary findings indicate that no robbery occurred.

Kasarani Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri, who was in the vehicle featured in the footage, clarified that the individuals seen surrounding the car were members of his delegation. Karauri stated that the vehicle had stopped because of a mechanical issue involving a door that would not lock properly while moving. He explained that the people in the video were fellow Nairobians who stopped to assist him in securing the door.

The Moja Expressway Company corroborated this, noting that their tracking and traffic monitoring systems identified the vehicles as part of a political delegation returning from a meeting. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified security-related content to avoid causing unnecessary panic.
