Nairobi hosts inaugural World Boxing Africa Elite Championships
The inaugural World Boxing Africa Elite Championships have commenced in Nairobi, Kenya. This marks the first time the country has hosted a major continental boxing championship since 1972.
The tournament serves as a critical platform for athletes, offering Kenyan boxers a potential pathway toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) is utilizing the event to attempt a renaissance for the sport following recent struggles, including missing out on the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Algerian national team is also competing in the event, fielding a delegation of thirteen athletes across men’s and women’s categories. The Algerian squad, which prepared at high altitude in Tikjda to build endurance, aims to secure multiple medals. The men's team includes eight fighters, while the women's team features five competitors, including prominent figures such as Ichrek Chaib.
