Embu political meeting violence leaves one dead and six vehicles torched

Violence erupted during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates' meeting in Nembure, Embu County, on September 12, which was presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. The unrest began when groups of youths allegedly attempted to storm the venue, leading to running battles between the crowd and security officers.

The confrontation resulted in one fatality and several injuries to both civilians and police officers. Extensive property damage was reported, including the torching of six vehicles and the vandalism of three others. Police utilized teargas to disperse the crowds and restore order, during which the Deputy President was safely evacuated.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service have launched investigations into the incident. Two suspects have already been arrested, and authorities are pursuing additional individuals linked to the chaos. The UDA party has issued a statement condemning the violence and calling for punitive measures against those responsible, emphasizing a commitment to issue-based politics rather than lawlessness.
