Nairobi to host major African netball and volleyball championships

Nairobi is set to host major continental sporting events, including the Africa Netball Cup and the 2026 CAVB Women’s National Volleyball Championship.

The Africa Netball Cup will feature a unified tournament format including both men’s and women’s teams. The event aims to promote the sport across the continent, featuring competitive teams from nations such as South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.

Simultaneously, the Kenyan government has expressed confidence in the Malkia Strikers, the national women’s volleyball team, to retain their African title at the volleyball championships. Held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena and Ulinzi Sports Complex, the tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and the following year’s World Championships. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvuyra noted that the event highlights Kenya’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
