Naju police arrest man for murder of elderly couple
Police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with the murder of a couple in their 60s in Naju, South Jeolla Province. The victims were discovered in their home on the evening of June 6, bound with blue tape and clothing.
Preliminary investigations suggest the husband died from excessive bleeding due to stab wounds, while the wife died of asphyxiation. The suspect, who was an acquaintance of the couple, was apprehended in an apartment in Muan on June 7 after police tracked his movements via CCTV.
CCTV footage showed the suspect approaching the residence on a bicycle and later fleeing with the victims' one-ton truck. The suspect reportedly withdrew 6 million won from the victims' account using their bank cards. During questioning, the suspect stated he needed money and claimed he did not initially intend to kill the couple. Police are investigating whether the motive was purely financial and plan to request an arrest warrant for robbery-homicide.
