Najwa Kokous appointed Morocco Minister of Family and Social Development

Najwa Kokous has been appointed as the Minister of Family, Social Development, and Equality by King Mohammed VI. The appointment, announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, marks a transition for Kokous from her roles in the Authenticity and Modernity Party and the Moroccan Parliament to the executive branch.

A lawyer by profession with a background in international law and human rights, Kokous previously served as the President of the National Council of the Authenticity and Modernity Party. Her parliamentary experience includes chairing the thematic group on equality and parity in the House of Representatives.

Kokous's move to the government creates a vacancy in her parliamentary seat for the Anfa constituency in Casablanca. Under legal procedures for replacing vacant seats, the runner-up on her electoral list, Alaoui El Mohammedi, is expected to succeed her in the House of Representatives.
