Nakamura-Tome JX-50 Mill‑Turn Centre and Festo AI Gripper Software Unveiled for Advanced Manufacturing

Methods Machine Tools introduced the Nakamura‑Tome JX‑50 mill‑turn machining centre at IMTS 2026, marking its North American debut. The five‑axis, B‑axis machine combines turning, milling and multi‑axis operations in a compact footprint, allowing manufacturers of aerospace, medical, automotive and electronics components to reduce setup time, improve precision and increase productivity by consolidating multiple processes into a single setup.

Festo announced its AI‑powered GripperAI software, which enables industrial robots to grasp mixed, unfamiliar and randomly positioned products without extensive programming or dedicated vision systems. The software evaluates optimal gripping points using a 3D camera, selects the appropriate end‑of‑arm tool, and can switch between vacuum and mechanical grippers in real time, enhancing flexibility and uptime for automated handling lines.
