Nakayoshi Gakuen uses Japanese language education for peacebuilding

The Nakayoshi Gakuen Project, in collaboration with the Renaissance Japanese Language Institute, is utilizing Japanese language education as a tool for peacebuilding in conflict-affected regions. Yuichi Nakamura, representative of Nakayoshi Gakuen, is integrating systematic teaching methodologies into his global educational activities.

In September 2026, the project expanded its reach to Ukraine, delivering Japanese textbooks and conducting lessons on Japanese culture and peace education at the Budokan secondary school in Lviv. Additionally, the organization continues to provide online Japanese language instruction to students at Aleppo University in Syria to maintain connections despite the ongoing civil war.

Since 2007, Nakayoshi Gakuen has operated in 11 countries, including Cambodia, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan. The initiative aims to use the newly established national certification for Japanese language teachers to provide professionalized education in areas impacted by war, poverty, and division, fostering two-way cultural exchange rather than unilateral instruction.
