Nalamtaaba Mining Enterprise appeals Minerals Commission eviction order

Workers and traders of the Nalamtaaba Mining Enterprise in Gbani, located in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, are appealing to the Minerals Commission to rescind a shutdown and eviction order. The enterprise, which has been licensed for small-scale gold extraction since 2014, has been ordered to halt all operations and vacate its 25-acre concession.

Local stakeholders and employees argue that the directive threatens the livelihoods of over one thousand people, including miners, traders, and artisanal workers. Managing Director Boyak Kolog noted the enterprise operates across approximately 17 active shafts and serves as a vital economic engine for the region. Community members expressed concern that a forced closure would lead to widespread joblessness and economic instability for hundreds of households.
