Nam Young-joon Appointed Director of South Korea's National Library

South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on July 7 that Nam Young‑joon, an honorary professor at Chung‑Ang University, has been appointed the new director of the National Library of Korea. His two‑year term runs until August 2028, succeeding Kim Hee‑seop, who retired in June.

Nam Young‑joon earned a doctorate in library and information science from Chung‑Ang University and has taught at Jeonju University and Chung‑Ang University for more than three decades. He previously served as president of the Korean Library Association, a member of the Presidential Library Information Policy Committee, and chair of the National Information Disclosure Commission, contributing to national knowledge‑policy design. Minister Choi Hwi‑young said Nam’s academic depth, practical library experience and policy expertise make him well suited to strengthen the library’s role in the digital‑transformation era and advance Korea’s library services.
