Namakkal: Masked gang robs couple of gold and cash

A five-member masked gang robbed a couple of gold jewellery and cash at their home in Pilikkalpalayam, near Paramathi-Velur in the Namakkal district, on Sunday night.

The victims, identified as jaggery trader Vairavan and his wife Sumathi, were assaulted and tied up after being woken by noises around midnight. During the incident, one gang member allegedly attacked Vairavan with a knife, causing a hand injury. The intruders broke open a bureau and fled with approximately 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 40 lakh in cash, totaling an estimated value of Rs 80 lakh.

Neighbors alerted the Jedarpalayam police after hearing the couple's cries for help. Namakkal Superintendent of Police Yadav Girish Ashok visited the scene, where fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were deployed to assist the ongoing investigation.
