Namibia addresses infrastructure impacts and environmental cleanliness

Namibia is facing dual challenges regarding its infrastructure and environmental management. The development of high-standard highway bypasses, such as the upgraded Windhoek–Okahandja route, has improved travel efficiency but threatens the economic viability of roadside towns. Local businesses, including restaurants, fuel stations, and craft markets, rely on passing traffic that bypasses these hubs.

Simultaneously, a new national environmental movement called Cleanup Namibia has been launched by Dr La-Toya Mwoombola-Hamutenya. The campaign aims to address litter in streets and riverbeds through community-powered action. Supported by the City of Windhoek and the Namibia Tourism Board, the movement plans its first major activation in Windhoek on September 19, 2026, with the goal of expanding into localized chapters nationwide.
