Namibia launches DigiNam national digital trust system

Namibia has launched DigiNam, a national digital trust system designed to streamline government services through the National Public Key Infrastructure (NPKI). The initiative aims to allow citizens to prove their identity and sign documents online securely, reducing the need to repeatedly submit physical documents or visit offices in person.

As part of this rollout, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security has been accredited by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) as the country’s first certification service provider. This accreditation enables the ministry to issue and manage digital certificates and public keys, facilitating the introduction of electronic identity (e-ID) services across government platforms.

Minister of Home Affairs Lucia Iipumbu emphasized that the next phase of digital transformation must focus on connecting isolated systems to improve service delivery. The government intends to establish common technical and security standards to ensure interoperability between various ministries and agencies while protecting citizen privacy.
