Namibia and China expand agricultural cooperation and trade
Namibia and China have strengthened their agricultural partnership through a new agreement that approves the export of table grapes and wild aquatic products to the Chinese market. This development was highlighted during the Namibia-Sichuan Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation and Exchange Seminar held in Windhoek.
Under China’s zero-tariff policy for African nations, Namibian exporters may gain a pricing advantage in the Chinese market. The cooperation focuses on four priority areas: mechanization, seed development, skills transfer, and agricultural trade.
Namibian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Inge Zaamwani stated that the country is working to transition from rain-fed farming to more resilient, irrigation-driven, and climate-smart production models. Efforts include assessing underutilized agricultural land across all 14 regions to boost food security and productivity.
