Namibia and South Africa announce social grant updates
Namibia’s Ministry of Finance has announced a new monthly payment schedule for all social grants effective November. The policy replaces the previous practice of issuing double payments in November or January with equal monthly disbursements. The Ministry stated that while the timing of payments is changing, the total annual amount received by beneficiaries remains the same. This shift affects categories including old age pensions, disability grants, foster care, and maintenance grants.
In South Africa, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has revised its November 2026 payment schedule to accommodate local government elections. To prevent crowds at pay points from interfering with voting, older persons will receive payments starting October 30, followed by disability grants on November 2 and child support grants on November 3.
SASSA has also issued warnings regarding grant reviews. Beneficiaries must respond to official review notices and update personal information, such as cellphone numbers, to avoid payment suspensions. The agency is encouraging the use of digital services, including a WhatsApp channel, to check grant status and access certifications.
