Namibia expands sanitation infrastructure in Kavango West and Zambezi
The Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has completed several sanitation infrastructure projects in the Kavango West and Zambezi regions. These developments are part of the Namibia Water Sector Support Programme (NWSSP), which is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), a N$50.4 million grant from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative Trust Fund, and a N$1.3 billion contribution from the Namibian government.
In Kavango West, new sanitation facilities were handed over at four clinics—Kapako, Mburu-Uru, Nzinze, and Sharukwe—as well as the Mupini Health Centre. In the Zambezi Region, N$5.6 million was utilized to construct sanitation facilities for six schools.
The NWSSP, which has a total value of N$3.3 billion, aims to improve water security, strengthen institutional capacity, and achieve universal access to water and hygiene by 2030. Officials noted that these investments are essential for public health, human dignity, and improving the quality of life for local communities.
