Namibia expands telecommunications and ICT infrastructure
Namibia is advancing its digital infrastructure through significant investments in the ICT sector. The country’s Sixth National Development Plan aims to digitize all government services by 2030 and increase the ICT sector’s economic share from 1.6% in 2024 to 4%.
According to the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), N$1.2 billion was invested in the ICT sector over the twelve months preceding September last year, with quarterly revenue rising 12% between April and June this year.
Private sector expansion is highlighted by Paratus Namibia, which has added nearly 600km of fiber to its network, bringing its total to over 5,000km. The company has also invested N$600 million over the last 24 months into its mobile network, utilizing current-generation technology to expand national coverage and capacity. Paratus maintains connectivity through access to the Equiano and West Africa Cable System (Wacs) submarine cables.
