Namibia launches NamLamb initiative amid livestock show restrictions
The Namibian sheep industry has reached a new milestone with the official launch of NamLamb, an initiative designed to increase market opportunities and brand recognition for Namibian lamb. As part of the launch, ten farmers were introduced as ‘Team Namibia’ to compete against South African farmers at the first Lamb Champs Invitational, scheduled for October 31, 2026, in Pretoria.
In contrast, the agricultural sector is facing challenges due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) restrictions. At the recently opened Windhoek Industrial and Agricultural Show, the livestock section remained largely empty as breeders were unable to exhibit or compete with cattle and other animals. While other sectors of the exhibition continue to operate, the absence of livestock highlights the economic impact of disease outbreaks on farmers and regional agricultural events.
