Namibia Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy expands resource sector oversight

Namibia’s Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) has endorsed the third Namibia Local Content Conference & Exhibition (NLCC26), scheduled for October 19–23, 2026, in Windhoek. The event will focus on offshore technology innovation as a means to secure local content development, particularly as the nation’s offshore petroleum sector approaches major investment decisions.

In a separate regulatory move, MIME and the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a service level agreement in Windhoek. This partnership aims to ensure petroleum fuel quality and compliance with national requirements. The agreement includes plans to build national infrastructure, such as a Petrochemical Testing Laboratory, to support fuel quality testing, quantity verification, and independent third-party sampling. These efforts are intended to align with the Petroleum Products and Energy Act of 2022 and the Revised National Quality Policy of 2025, enhancing consumer protection and environmental safety.
