Namibia Qualifications Authority Council inaugurated to drive reforms

Namibia’s Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Dr. Sanet Steenkamp, has formally inaugurated the newly appointed Council of the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). Led by Chairperson Dr. Colen Tuaundu, the Council is tasked with implementing critical legislative and digital reforms to strengthen the national qualifications system.

Key priorities for the new leadership include reviewing the NQA’s legislative framework, implementing the National Policy on Qualifications Standards, and finalizing the National Policy on Microcredentials. The Minister also emphasized the need to modernize the National Qualifications Framework Information Management System and accreditation processes to improve efficiency and service delivery.

While the NQA has recently achieved milestones such as full compliance with its Governance Scorecard and the introduction of an automated qualifications evaluation system, Steenkamp urged the Council to ensure these institutional improvements translate into tangible benefits for learners and employers. The goal is to ensure that qualifications remain credible, recognized, and relevant to the country’s development.
