Namibia reports N$223 billion in GIPF assets and N$74.4 billion in oil and gas FDI
The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) reports total assets of approximately N$223 billion. The fund supports 115,000 active members and roughly 58,400 pensioners and annuitants. Recent investments include N$2.7 billion in renewable energy projects, contributing 162.75 megawatts to Namibia’s electricity capacity, and N$665 million in agribusinesses. Additionally, the GIPF has inaugurated a new N$99.4 million regional office in Ondangwa to decentralize service delivery.
In the energy sector, Namibia’s oil and gas industry attracted approximately N$74.4 billion in foreign direct investment between 2021 and 2025, accounting for about 56% of total FDI inflows. Discussions at a recent Bank of Namibia symposium emphasized the need for strong regulatory frameworks, domestic skill development, and the integration of the petroleum sector into the broader economy to maximize long-term benefits ahead of first oil production.
