Namibia secures new China investment deals in energy and minerals
Chinese President Xi Jinping met Namibian President Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah in Beijing, where the two leaders signed eight agreements to deepen cooperation in energy, agriculture, infrastructure and critical minerals such as uranium, lithium and rare earths. The accords include a framework partnership on green minerals and commitments to local processing, technology transfer and skills development.
Namibia, seeking to diversify its economy and create jobs, views China as a strategic partner and major trading partner that already imports about a quarter of its exports. Chinese companies have invested billions of dollars in Namibian mining, and the new agreements aim to expand Chinese involvement in the country’s emerging oil, gas and renewable‑energy sectors.
