Namibia signs N$177.99m contract for new medical storage

Namibia is addressing a critical shortage in national medicine storage capacity through a N$177.99 million contract. The Central Procurement Board of Namibia and the Ministry of Health and Social Services have signed an agreement to construct a new Central Medical Store and refurbish existing facilities.

The project aims to eliminate an estimated 1,700 cubic metre storage deficit. Currently, the existing Central Medical Store has a capacity of approximately 2,900 cubic metres, while the national requirement is estimated at 4,600 cubic metres. The contract was awarded to the New Era Investment (Pty) Ltd JV Summit Trading CC joint venture.

Mary Shiimi, Chairperson of the CPBN Board, stated that the project is vital for strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain and ensuring reliable access to medicines across the country. Ministry of Health and Social Services Executive Director Penda Ithindi confirmed that the signing of the contract allows for the immediate implementation of the project.
