Namibia strengthens energy profile with major oil and gas summits

The 4th Namibia Oil and Gas Conference recently concluded in Windhoek, focusing on the theme ‘From Decision to Dividend: Making Namibia’s Oil Work for Namibians.’ The three-day event gathered over 1,500 delegates and 120 speakers to discuss transitioning from offshore exploration to practical resource development. Key priorities included empowering local enterprises, creating jobs, and preparing the youth workforce for the energy sector.

Building on this momentum, Namibia has been selected to host the 2026 International African Energy, Oil and Gas Summit (IAEOGS) in Windhoek from October 20 to 24. Originally scheduled for Doha, Qatar, the summit's relocation to Namibia highlights the country's growing status as an energy frontier, particularly due to estimated offshore reserves of 11 billion barrels in the Orange Basin.

The 2026 summit, themed ‘Igniting Africa’s Energy and Land Governance Future,’ aims to address Africa's energy investment gap and infrastructure deficits. Discussions will focus on de-risking capital, mobilizing cross-border financing, and leveraging carbon markets to improve energy access across the continent.
