Namibia targets 50,000 new houses by 2030

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has set a target to deliver 50,000 houses by 2030, aiming to construct approximately 10,000 units annually starting in 2025. To evaluate potential solutions for the nation's housing crisis, the President personally financed two homes built by Yambuka Housing at a cost of N$200,000 each. This test was intended to determine if the company’s prefabricated construction model could deliver two-bedroom houses with basic amenities within a week.

While the 50,000-house goal is a significant milestone, experts note that Namibia faces a much larger national housing deficit estimated at 500,000 units. Addressing this shortage will require more than government action; success depends on creating an ecosystem that encourages private sector participation and entrepreneurship through improved access to land, planning frameworks, and municipal infrastructure.
