Namibia manages energy, finance, and utility sector developments

Namibia is navigating several key economic developments across its energy, financial, and utility sectors. Recent offshore discoveries in the Orange Basin have shifted the national focus from exploration toward infrastructure development, local skill building, and long-term value creation to ensure national prosperity.

In the energy sector, the government has announced that diesel prices will remain unchanged for October to support the industrial economy, despite rising international costs. However, petrol 95 prices are set to increase by N$1.50 per litre. Meanwhile, NamPower data indicates a continued reliance on imported electricity, which accounted for a significant portion of the national supply mix in recent years.

In the financial sector, Namibia’s microlending industry saw a 27% growth in its loan book to N$9.3 billion by June 2026, driven by cost-of-living pressures. Additionally, the medical aid fund industry remains stable with average reserves at 44.8%, well above the statutory minimum. Experts at a recent international conference emphasized the need for Namibia to prioritize energy security and strategic resource management amid global geopolitical shifts.
