Namibian President calls for renewed child protection commitment

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for a renewed national commitment to protecting children from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Speaking on the Day of the Namibian Child, she emphasized that every child in Namibia should have equal opportunities to learn, stay healthy, and pursue their dreams, regardless of whether they live in villages, farms, informal settlements, or urban areas.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that child protection is a collective responsibility involving parents, teachers, community leaders, civil society, and the government. She noted that no child should live in fear in environments where they should feel safest.

Regarding education, the President stated that preparing children for the future requires more than classroom access. She advocated for nurturing critical thinking, life skills, and curiosity, while encouraging children to have a voice in matters that affect their lives and future.
