Namibian youth urged to lead in technology and emerging industries

Youth leaders and officials in Namibia are calling for young people to take active roles in national development by embracing technology, innovation, and emerging industries. During International Youth Day commemorations in Keetmanshoop, leaders emphasized the importance of ensuring youth outside major urban centers have access to economic opportunities.

Specific focus was placed on emerging sectors such as green hydrogen in Lüderitz. Officials highlighted the need for young people to develop digital skills and entrepreneurship to participate in the modern economy. In the Hardap region, initiatives are underway to guide youth through government programs, including the National Youth Development Fund, to assist in business registration and job creation.

To support these goals, the Hardap Governor’s Youth Desk is working toward establishing a computer laboratory to improve digital literacy. Efforts are also being directed toward skills development in agriculture, media, and the creative industries to foster economic sustainability and vocational training.
