Namit Malhotra explains lip-sync technology for Ramayana: Part 1
Producer Namit Malhotra has detailed the technological process used to create the English trailer for the upcoming film ‘Ramayana: Part 1’. Following the release of the trailer by Sony Pictures, attention has focused on the fluid lip-syncing that makes the English dialogue appear natural rather than traditionally dubbed.
Malhotra explained that the workflow is a multi-step process that prioritizes human performance before applying technology. The first stage involves human voice actors—including some principal cast members with English proficiency—to ensure authentic emotional expression. This is followed by a human-led phase where artists create the foundational lip movements to match the new dialogue. DNEG’s AI-assisted technology is then used for the final finishing to ensure the movements are optimized for cinema screens.
