Nampula economic performance reports show conflicting target achievements

Reports regarding the economic performance of Mozambique's Nampula province during the first half of the year present conflicting data regarding the achievement of production and revenue targets.

According to William Simão Tunzine, spokesperson for the Nampula Provincial Executive Council, the province reached a global production of 101.46 billion meticais. This figure represents approximately 70% of the annual target of 162.9 billion meticais, surpassing the 50% benchmark expected for the first six months.

However, a separate assessment by the Planning and Budget Commission of the Assembly of the Republic indicates that the Provincial Executive Council failed to meet planned goals in key sectors, including production, revenue collection, and execution. The commission reported that global production reached only 70.3% of its planned target, and revenue collection amounted to 14.08 million meticais against a projected 32.04 million meticais. The commission attributed these shortfalls to factors such as the transfer of certain institutions and delays in sending contribution records to the central government. Agriculture was noted as the primary contributor to the province's economic performance.
