Nampula province reports 47 malaria deaths in six months

In the Nampula province of northern Mozambique, at least 47 people have died from malaria during the first six months of 2026, according to provincial government spokesperson William Tuzine. The region recorded 796,422 malaria cases during this period.

Tuzine noted that despite the fatalities, these figures represent a decrease compared to the same period in 2025, which saw 1.8 million cases and 61 deaths. Authorities are maintaining efforts to distribute mosquito nets and conduct community awareness campaigns to reduce new infections.

In addition to malaria, Nampula is facing a measles outbreak spanning eight districts. The city of Nampula has recorded approximately 436 measles cases and two deaths, while the Malema district has reported about 283 cases. Other affected districts include Eráti, Memba, Nacala, Nacarôa, Mogovolas, and Mecubúri.
