Nampula reports 535 cases of premature unions in six months

Nampula province recorded 535 cases of premature unions involving children aged 15 to 17 during the first six months of the year. This data was presented during the II Provincial Forum of Community Leaders.

In response to these cases, provincial authorities reported that 182 children have been reintegrated into their families, 266 have returned to school, and 93 are receiving psychological support. Officials emphasized that while progress is being made across districts, challenges persist in protecting the rights of girls.

Community leaders are being called upon to strengthen their capacity to combat these practices, as premature unions are viewed as a violation that increases poverty and hinders regional development.
