NAMRU EURAFCENT partners with Seek Labs for medical research at NAS Sigonella
The Naval Medical Research Unit EURAFCENT (NAMRU EURAFCENT), based at NAS Sigonella in Italy, has entered into two cooperative research and development agreements with Seek Laboratories, Inc. This four-year collaboration aims to advance field-deployable diagnostic and therapeutic countermeasures to enhance force health protection and warfighter readiness.
The partnership focuses on utilizing Seek Labs’ platforms in operational environments to provide rapid detection and treatment of infectious diseases. These technologies are specifically designed for U.S. military medical teams operating in resource-constrained or austere settings, allowing for timely identification of emerging health threats.
This activity follows the relocation of NAMRU-3 from Cairo, Egypt, to the Sicilian naval air station. The unit, which conducts research on viruses, bacteria, vaccines, and antiviral drugs, is part of the U.S. Navy’s efforts to protect personnel against biological, nuclear, and chemical attacks.
