NamWater infrastructure backlog to face scrutiny in Namibia
NamWater’s ageing infrastructure and the funding required for critical repairs are set to be addressed in the Namibian National Assembly next week. Diederik Vries, chief whip of the Popular Democratic Movement, has posed questions to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform regarding the extent of the utility’s infrastructure backlog.
Specific concerns include the rehabilitation of pipelines, reservoirs, and pump stations, as well as the implementation of long-term replacement plans to prevent future backlogs. Additionally, the inquiry seeks to address outstanding water debts owed to NamWater and how these debts impact the utility’s ability to maintain and expand its services amid growing demand for reliable water supplies.
