Namyangju selected as host for 2027 Korea Reading Festival

Namyangju has been selected as the host city for the 2027 Korea Reading Festival, a major national reading, publishing, and cultural event. The city plans to use the festival to promote its identity as a “humanities city” by integrating the philosophy of the historical figure Jeong Yak-yong into the programming.

The main event is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 26, 2027, centered around the Jeong Yak-yong Library and historical sites. The festival will feature modern reinterpretations of Jeong Yak-yong’s three reading methods: intensive reading, recording thoughts, and transcribing important passages.

Preparations will begin following the official handover of the festival flag in Chuncheon on the 18th. The city intends to run year-long programs through 13 public libraries starting in January 2027, including a “City of Books Declaration” in March.
