Nan Province flood relief: Thai government approves emergency budget
The Thai government has launched an extensive relief and recovery operation in Nan Province following severe flooding and mudslides. The Cabinet approved a special emergency budget of approximately 550 million baht to assist flood victims.
Key compensation measures include 9,000 baht per household for flooded residences and 2,000,000 baht for individuals who died due to direct flood or mudslide incidents. To expedite the process, authorities have simplified documentation requirements, allowing residents to use local government certifications instead of extensive paperwork.
Agricultural relief has also been prioritized, with Minister Suriya Juangroongkit announcing that compensation rates for farmers, fishery, and livestock workers will double based on updated 2022 regulations. Approximately 80% of agricultural damage has been surveyed. To address long-term flood risks, the Ministry of Agriculture is studying the construction of medium and large reservoirs, including a potential 20-billion-baht bypass canal project in Nan.
On the ground, Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanan Wongsawat is overseeing recovery efforts in Tha Wang Pha and Pua districts, focusing on clearing mud, repairing roads, and constructing temporary bridges. Additionally, the Ministry of Education has allocated 1 million baht for school recovery and mandated safety inspections before reopening educational facilities.
