Nana Yaa Jantuah calls for long-term economic development plan in Ghana

Nana Yaa Jantuah, a Presidential Staffer, has called for the adoption of a long-term national economic development plan in Ghana to ensure continuity across successive administrations. Speaking at the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah Africa Leadership Conference and Awards in Accra, Jantuah argued that national development should not be tied solely to the shifting manifestos of political parties, which often leads to the abandonment of existing initiatives.

Jantuah emphasized the need to return to the vision of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, focusing on industrialization, economic independence, and the local processing of raw materials. She noted that while Ghana has achieved political independence, it remains economically dependent on foreign influence and international financial institutions. To combat this, she advocated for strengthening local production and increasing intra-African trade.

During the event, organized by the West Africa International Press Limited and the Nkrumah Vision Alive Movement, Jantuah also launched the 'Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah 20 Questions and Answers' to promote his ideas. Dr Dee Otibu-Asare, Executive Director of the Eminent West Africa Nobles Forum, added that Africa requires a development approach rooted in its own historical and socio-economic realities rather than a heavy reliance on foreign economic programs.
