Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng cases to be consolidated and moved to High Court

The Attorney-General’s Department is consolidating two separate cases against Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a 35-year-old entrepreneur and self-styled online pastor, to transfer them to the High Court. Kwarteng is accused of defrauding women through alleged romance scams conducted via an Instagram account with approximately 21,000 followers.

Kwarteng is facing charges alongside his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, a Chartered Accountant. The couple has been jointly charged with six counts of conspiracy to commit crime, specifically defrauding by false pretences. Amoasah faces additional charges related to the making, producing, and possessing of obscene material, while Kwarteng faces further charges of defrauding by false pretences, resisting arrest, and possessing obscene material. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution’s amended facts list seven complainants, including an ambassador and several businesswomen. Prosecutors allege that Kwarteng used his online platform to conduct religious services, during which Amoasah allegedly participated by reading Scripture and displaying Bible verses, while being aware of her husband’s activities. Amoasah has been granted bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties and is required to report to investigators twice weekly.
