Edmonton Sikh temple stabbing: Two injured, suspect in custody FAST-MOVING

A 27-year-old man is in custody following a stabbing at the Nanaksar Gurdwara in Edmonton, Canada, during morning prayers on Friday. The suspect, who has a history of violent offenses and was released from federal prison only a day prior, allegedly used a screwdriver to attack two worshippers, aged 51 and 75. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has assigned its Hate Crimes Unit to investigate whether the attack was motivated by religious bias or ideology. Witnesses at the temple intervened to detain the suspect until police arrived. The suspect had reportedly failed to report to his assigned halfway house following his recent release.

Community organizations, including the World Sikh Organization of Canada and UNITED SIKHS, have condemned the violence and called for a thorough investigation into potential hate motives. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre also issued statements condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with the Sikh community.
