Nancy Guthrie kidnapping investigation remains active seven months later

Seven months after Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her Catalina Foothills home near Tucson, Arizona, investigators have not named a suspect. Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of ‘Today’ co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after failing to attend a church service.

Authorities are investigating the disappearance as a kidnapping. While ransom notes were previously released by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, no proof of life has been provided and no ransom has been paid. Doorbell camera footage from the day of the disappearance shows a masked individual in front of the residence.

Retired FBI agent Scott Augenbaum stated that the lack of public updates does not mean the investigation has stalled. He described the case as ‘very tightly guarded’ rather than a ‘cold case,’ noting that law enforcement often withholds information while building a prosecutable case against a suspect. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department maintains that the investigation is active, with DNA and video analyses continuing through laboratories nationwide.
