Nancy Guthrie disappearance investigation hampered by delayed FBI involvement and lost video evidence

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" co‑host Savannah Guthrie, was taken from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1. Local law‑enforcement officials kept the FBI out of the case for four days, a delay that FBI Director Kash Patel says may have caused the loss of crucial Nest doorbell video footage. The Nest camera, which lacked a cloud subscription and was disconnected shortly after the abduction, had cached video that the FBI later recovered with Google's help just before it was automatically deleted. The recovered material includes only limited footage of a masked suspect – described as 5 ft 9‑10 in tall, of medium build, carrying a 25‑liter Ozark Trail backpack – and a single still image from an earlier visit. Patel warned that earlier involvement could have yielded additional video, such as a suspect vehicle or more images of the intruder. The Pima County Sheriff disputes any obstruction, but the case remains unresolved nearly six months later.
