Nancy Guthrie disappearance leads to YouTuber arrest and sheriff's scam warning
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY show co‑anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona continued its search and, on June 11, arrested 54‑year‑old YouTuber Alexander Zabel Jr. outside Guthrie’s Tucson home. Zabel, who livestreamed from the property, was charged with a Class 6 felony for resisting arrest and a Class 2 misdemeanor for public nuisance. He had previously been taken into custody on June 8, along with two other YouTubers, on suspicion of obstructing a highway and public nuisance.
Following the incidents, the sheriff’s department issued an alert warning residents about social‑media scams that claim to represent the department, urging the public to verify information only through official channels. Volunteers from the Buscando Corazones collective in Nogales, Mexico, also searched a stream near the Arizona border after receiving an anonymous tip about a possible burial site, which the department said it was aware of but had not yet been contacted by Mexican authorities.
