Nancy Guthrie disappearance: US officials say no contact with Mexico after tip leads to empty grave

Nancy Guthrie, an 84‑year‑old from Tucson and the mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since 1 February. An anonymous tip claimed her body was in a grave near the Mariposa area of Sonora, close to the US‑Mexico border. Volunteer groups Buscando Corazones and Buscadoras de la Frontera searched the site, uncovering a mass‑grave field with more than 25 clandestine graves, but the specific grave linked to the tip was empty.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI confirmed they have not received any communication from Mexican authorities about the lead. The sheriff’s office issued a statement: “At this time, we have not received any communication from Mexican authorities.” The investigation remains active, with search teams planning further operations in nearby waterways.
