Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer posted a ten‑step strategy, urging updated billboards with clearer images of the masked "Porch Guy," Spanish‑language messaging, a higher reward ($2.2 million), Bitcoin tracing of alleged ransom demands, and re‑analysis of DNA evidence. She also suggested involving private search groups such as the Cajun Navy.

Journalist Brian Entin expressed doubts about the ransom narrative, noting the lack of direct communication, proof of life, or a viable payment method. Volunteer groups in Mexico followed an anonymous tip to a site that proved empty, though they have uncovered dozens of unmarked graves in the region.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos referenced a Web3 security firm’s report that the case might involve a “spanner attack,” a cryptocurrency‑extortion scheme targeting family members.

Recent changes to Guthrie’s Facebook profile—privacy settings switched to private and comments disabled—added another mystery, with no official comment on who made the edits.
