Nancy Guthrie disappearance spurs new ransom note claiming video evidence

84‑year‑old Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1 2026. Law‑enforcement agencies—including the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI—have kept the case active, offering a $100,000 reward plus private pledges that total over $1 million.

Since the kidnapping, multiple ransom notes have been sent to media outlets such as TMZ and local TV station KOLD. The latest note, delivered to TMZ, claims the sender possesses a hidden phone containing a short video of Guthrie with her alleged kidnapper on “the day she probably died,” along with photos, names and addresses of two abductors. The sender demands one Bitcoin (about $60,000) for the phone’s location. FBI analyst James Fitzgerald expressed doubt, stating, “I don’t think any of them are real.”

Volunteer groups, including Buscando Corazones and Madres Buscadoras, have conducted searches in Sonora, Mexico, but found no trace of Guthrie or evidence linking her to the state. Savannah Guthrie has repeatedly appealed on air, saying, “We are in agony… please help,” and continues to seek information while urging the public to report any leads anonymously.
