Nancy Pelosi criticizes Biden inner circle over cognitive concerns

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has criticized the inner circle of Joe Biden, stating that those aware of his cognitive decline during the 2024 reelection campaign should have acted. Speaking at a Politico event, Pelosi clarified that she did not explicitly demand Biden withdraw from the race, but instead urged him to re-evaluate his candidacy in light of polling data showing that 72% of Americans believed he should not run.

Pelosi revealed that during a private meeting at the White House, she advised Biden to undergo and publicize medical or cognitive testing to reassure the public of his ability to serve a second term. She noted that while Biden argued his daily duties tested his cognitive abilities, she maintained that voters required diagnostic proof.

Reflecting on the June 2024 presidential debate, Pelosi described the performance as “sad” and noted it was a moment when the extent of the issue became clear to many. She also addressed the conflicting accounts regarding who was aware of his condition, noting that staff members often claimed the family knew, while the family claimed the staff was informed.
