Nancy Wu and Myolie Wu adapt careers for Mainland China market

Hong Kong actresses and former TVB Best Actress winners Nancy Wu and Myolie Wu are navigating significant career shifts as they expand their presence in the Mainland Chinese market.

Nancy Wu, who officially left TVB and Shaw Brothers in February, has embraced a new phase of independence. She has transitioned from a stable schedule of consecutive television roles to a more varied professional life, which includes releasing her own single, ‘Unknown is Also Fine’, and appearing in films such as ‘Ordinary Women’. Wu noted that moving into the Mainland market requires a mindset shift, as she may no longer always secure lead roles and might instead accept smaller parts to rebuild her presence.

Similarly, Myolie Wu has shared that her career in the Mainland has made it difficult to secure leading lady roles. Rather than focusing on star status, she expressed a preference for playing interesting supporting characters, even if they require significant makeup or aging. Both actresses demonstrate a willingness to start from the ground up to adapt to the changing landscape of the regional film and television industry.
