Nandigram by-election: Trinamool Congress nominates Sanchita Pradhan Dey

Political tensions are rising in West Bengal ahead of upcoming by-elections in the Nandigram and Rezinnagar constituencies. The elections follow the resignation of incumbents Shubhendu Adhikari and Humayun Kabir, who vacated their seats after winning multiple constituencies in the previous assembly elections.

In Nandigram, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated Sanchita Pradhan Dey, a former primary school teacher. Pradhan Dey was among the thousands of educators who lost their jobs due to a recruitment corruption scandal. Her selection is viewed as a strategic move to leverage her local connections and personal experience with the recruitment issue. The Congress party has also fielded a candidate, Milan Pradhan, in Nandigram.

The BJP aims to use these by-elections to demonstrate political strength, while the TMC seeks to maintain its influence. Other parties, including the Left and Congress, are also contesting to challenge the dominance of the two major players. The deadline for filing nominations is September 16, with the election results expected to be announced on October 9.
